Youth United organized an AWARENESS CUM RESOLUTION CAMPAIGN among the underprivileged section of the population of Chandigarh i.e the colony no.5(a noted slum area in Chandigarh), sector 51, Chandigarh which consisted of survey cum counseling sessions and Youth United volunteers provided First Time Resolutions (FTRs) to their problems, whenever(wherever) possible. This activity was the first phase of the YUMEAM project, in which Youth United tries to exert a pull on the importance of upliftment of the weakest and most underprivileged sections of Society for the development of the Nation in a real manner. Youth United shall now try to find solutions and implement them, with the help of Administration. The project YUMEAM aims at establishing a center in Colony no-5, Chandigarh where free education, vocational training, health issues, legal issues and et al will be addressed with the help of administration.
For building the base, we headed an Awareness Campaign, the first phase of which began on 8th Feb and continued for a week. It comprised of a survey in which the Youth United volunteers, approx 25-30 visited approximately 1100 houses (Both K & B block) in colony no-5 covering the variety of population and queried about the problems faced by residents and provided FTRs, whenever, wherever possible.
In next phase, we will be going to government departments and MC seeking help on the same in providing resolutions of the problems.
The sample survey was initially conducted on 25th, 26th & 27th Jan in Bapu Dham colony, sec-26 and Colony no 5, sec -51, Chandigarh to evaluate where more needy people stay. We found out that many NGO's are working in Bapu Dham but Colony no-5 is in a completely neglected state. Thats why, this area was targeted area.
After the survey, following problems came into light: Health problems, domestic violence, sanitation, drug-addiction, drinking water problem, family planning, legal issues, education of girl child and etc. Under our sub-project YU-Heal, we are contacting the Chandigarh Administration for providing some help to organize health camps or open dispensaries as health is the area which needs immediate attention. Also, approximately 1200 students are not able to avail education, YUMEAM targets to provide them the same. The health and sanitation wing of Chandigarh administration is being contacted to help resolve sanitation issues.
