Is Gandhi alive in you? 2009/10/01 22:44

Munna Bhai might have faded away from our memories, but his Jaadu ki Jhappi still retains its magic. Blame it to the power of love or Kids message of warmth that Gandhiji spread in his life, somewhere deep down inside our hearts an element of the man still remains alive. - TOI, 2nd Oct, 2009 On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, we heartily salute the 'Father of the Nation'. Do you think Gandhiji's thoughts and teachings are alive in you, which otherwise have become the issues of relevance or obsolesce in today's world?

The teachings Gandhiji gave us have gone missing down the line...and the worst part is that The respect he deserves have gone missing.Today i was in our bathroom in hostel no. 6 and i was listening to a conversation between two young, learned men who were abusing him simply because had he not been born our university library and stuc would have been open today.I was wondering if he had not been there can these two young men have had a chat with so much freedom of speech...the freedom to abuse the person responsible for their freedom...had there been any university, any library..i kept thinking and by the time they had gone having brushed their teeth but forgot to give a brush to their tongue and thoughts..Today, i think along with his teachings the youth have forgotten the sufferings, the humiliation and the apin our ancestors took so that people like these can have fresh air of freedom to breathe...I think it is much more important for Kapil sibbal to tell our students about our freedom movements and the persons responsible for it in a more elaborative way than to scrap board exams...

the best thing which i liked about mahatma gandhi is that wen it comes to criticizing his own inveterate ill habits,he's the such an amazing critic that his critique conspicuously stands out from others in that arena...

Gandhi jis teaching in todays world, hold significance, may not much.. but to some extent, thing "jaduu ki japhi", may be modified, we need to give a "japhi" in a real sense, to show our emotions, start speaking with with love, joyfully with everyone around you, we all we need to deal with, stop shouting at ppl, this may produce dazzling effect in your personality, as well as your impression which we leave on others mind. This may be modified form of "jadu ki japhi", or more purely, modified form of "ahinsa", stay calm, don't lose your temper. The thing i hate the most is this only, ppl lose dere temper very easily, and start shouting at others, i think it shd be looked upon by every person..

i really agree with wat deepanshu and himanshu feel ...yes today the teachings of gandhi are not so firmly rooted in us...but the reason is not that we cnt survive wd them in this world...the reason is that they ve not been inculcated in our system ! no doubt the survival of the fittest applies to each and every individual today but that does not mean that we cannot follow his principles... he followed them ...n survived...so y cnt we?

I think our discussion is heading towards an interesting area. Some teachings of Bapu may be irrelevant and obsolete because everything is this world needs change, and Bapu's teachings are not the exception. Even Bapu would have altered or modify his teachings, had he been with us right now. The question is who is authorized to alter his teachings and let others know about that. I think the answer is your conscience. If you think, you have commitment to behave responsibly and dutifully to the country and society, to work for their betterment and hence to become a responsible, assiduous and enterprising citizen, then you shall let your conscience take the decision to alter his teachings aptly, when required, without altering on your aforementioned commitments.

I heard some person saying Gandhi an asshole.. My reply to him/her. this point was well put across by Deepanshu on his forum post http://youthunited.in/Forum/Is-Gandhi-alive-in-you/898-ReIs-Gandhi-alive-in-you.html#894where Depanshu has rightly said that because of Gandhi ans his efforts, u got the freedom and right to call 'Father of Nation' an asshole. We call it freedom of speech and expression and several other Fundamental Rights, bestowed upon us, through the Constitution. Enjoy your rights rightfully.
